Data and Analysis
FAS/Cairo (Post) forecasts Egypt’s wheat imports in marketing year 2025/26 at 12.7 MMT, up from the previous marketing year due to higher consumption driven by population growth.
Between April 15-July 30, 2025, the Government of Egypt (GoE) procured 3.93 million metric tons of local wheat, an increase of approximately 16 percent compared to last season, but short the 4 million metric tons which the GoE aims to procure by August 15, 2025.
Egyptian sweetpotato production continues to expand as the demand in export markets increase. Egyptian exports of sweetpotatoes have risen significantly over the past few years, primarily to the European market due to geographic proximity.

Private exporters reported sales of 110,000 MT of soybeans for delivery to Egypt during MY 2024/2025.
