U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, co-host for the Agriculture Innovation Mission for Climate Summit, today announced during the Summit’s opening plenary that AIM for Climate partners from around the globe are increasing investment in, and support for, climate-smart agriculture and food systems innovation.

Deputy Secretary Jewel Bronaugh traveled to Bali Sept. 27-29 to attend the G20 Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting, making the case for joint action on food security, climate, agricultural innovation, sustainable productivity growth, and closer global integration through trade.

At the first AIM for Climate ministerial meeting in Dubai, Secretary Vilsack called on AIM for Climate partners to continue on their ambitious path towards addressing global climate change and hunger challenges.

At meetings and events throughout the COP26 in Glasgow, Secretary Vilsack highlighted USDA partnerships and initiatives that put agriculture, forestry and rural communities at the center of global solutions to the climate crisis.

President Biden and leaders from the United Arab Emirate officially launched the Agriculture Innovation Mission for Climate (AIM for Climate) on Nov. 2 at COP26 in Glasgow.

The Agriculture Innovation Mission for Climate now has the support of 30 nations, as well as the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the United Kingdom’s COP26 Presidency

The U.S. government will host an informal, virtual listening session on Sept. 3 to solicit stakeholder input in advance of the UN Food Systems Summit, which takes place Sept. 23.

In the leadup to the United Nations Food Systems Summit, U.S. government officials took part in the Pre-Summit Ministerial meeting in Rome July 26-28, building coalitions and seeking solutions to end hunger and poverty and build more sustainable, equitable and resilient food systems.
