Sri Lanka: Sri Lanka Invites WTO Members to Comment on Draft Amendment Standards for Tomato Sauce

On January 26, 2022, the Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI) notified draft amendment standards for tomato sauce to the World Trade Organization (WTO). WTO members are invited to submit comments on notification G/TBT/N/LKA/43. The comment period expires on March 26, 2022. The amendments are issued to align with the Food (Preservatives) Regulation (2019) under the Food Act 26 of 1980.

FAS New Delhi maintains India’s centrifugal sugar production for marketing year (MY) 2025/26 at 35 million metric tons (MMT) (raw value basis), equivalent to 33 MMT of crystal sugar. This is supported by favorable rainfall during the 2024 southwest monsoon, which facilitated planting, and the 2025 monsoon which facilitated enhanced yields.
