While Nigeria has a long history of subsistence-based milk production, urbanization is driving increased consumption of non-traditional dairy products.

In 2024, Nigeria created the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development to unlock potential in the country’s vast but underdeveloped livestock sector. The Ministry’s leadership has focused on increasing commercial productivity, which may lead to more interest in U.S. live animal, genetics, and animal feed product exports.

On May 20, 2025, the Argentine Government extended lower export tax on wheat and barley of 9.5 percent through March 2026. All the other commodities will return to their higher previous levels on July 1, 2025.

This report is an overview and update of regulations and standards for importing U.S. food and beverage products to Argentina.

Argentina has reformed its food import and export regulations. The new rules allow food imported from countries with “high sanitary standards”, including the US, to enter with minimal paperwork. Also, exports from Argentina now only need to meet the requirements of destination countries rather than Argentine domestic regulations.

Argentina will cut export taxes on major agricultural commodities, effective January 27, 2025, on key crops including soybeans, corn, and wheat.

Wheat production in marketing year (MY) 2024/25 is estimated at 18.1 tons, higher on a larger area. Exports remain unchanged, with Brazil expected to be quite active.

On August 14, Nigeria’s Customs Service publicly released implementation guidelines that temporarily waives all import (and associated levy) taxes for rice, sorghum, millet, corn, wheat, and beans until December 31, 2024. This policy was announced in mid-July by the Minister of Agriculture to “to ameliorate food inflation in the country.”

Unlike the many smaller trade shows in Nigeria, Food and Beverage (FAB) West Africa 2024 stood out as a well-attended, well-organized, and diverse trade show featuring snack and processed foods, confectionery products, beverages, food ingredients, dairy products, grains, seafood, and food service equipment.
