Argentine cattle stock, cattle slaughter, beef production, consumption and export volumes are all forecast to remain practically unchanged in 2023. China is expected to continue as the main export destination, potentially accounting for more than 70 percent of the 770,000 tons carcass weight equivalent (CWE) projected exports. Despite strong global beef demand and good prices, current, government imposed, export restrictions are projected to prevent Argentina from shipping larger volumes.
Post projects 2023 Argentine chicken meat production at 2.38 million metric tons, up very slightly from 2022 levels, while 2023 exports are projected at 190,000 tons, up 4 percent from 2022. Argentine exporters have gained new export opportunities as a result of trade disruptions stemming from the conflict in Ukraine, and these gains are expected to be maintained in the short term.
For CY 2019/2020, fresh deciduous fruit production is forecast at 550,000 MT for fresh apples and 590,000 MT for fresh pears, unchanged from revised CY 2018/19 levels.
2020 chicken meat production will rise slightly to 2.2 million metric tons with exports of 158,000 metric tons, up 2 percent to key markets of China, Chile and Russia.
2019 Argentine dairy production is projected at 10,650,000 tons, down 1.8 percent from 2018 due to abnormally warm weather during the first half of the year.
2019/20 soybean planted area is forecast at 18 million hectares, up 0.2 million hectares as producers shift second season plantings from corn to soybeans.
Argentina’s raisin production is forecast stable at 44,000 metric tons (MT) in CY 2020.
Argentina’s fuel ethanol production and consumption remains stable with 2019 forecast at 1.1 billion liters with no trade expected and the E12 mandate blend near 11.5 percent.
For marketing year (MY) 2019/20, Post wheat production is forecast higher than USDA at a record 20.8 million tons on larger planted area than USDA lifting exports to a record 14.3 million tons.
