The EU-28 sugar production for food purposes for MY 2016/17 is forecast at 16.5 million MT in raw sugar equivalent (RSE), with another 0.9 million MT produced for industrial purposes.

FAS/Nairobi forecasts a decrease in Kenya’s sugar production in the marketing year (MY) 2016/2017 as cane farmers move to produce other products such as dairy and horticulture.

Bulgarian farmers increased wheat planted area in MY2016/17 by 9% as of December 2015. Winter barley planting had a decline of 2.2%.

Following a double digit decline in total oilseed production in MY2015/16 due to summer heat and drought, Bulgarian farmers are ready to expand planted areas under sunflower and rapeseed in MY2016/17.
