The EU-28 sugar production for food purposes for MY 2016/17 is forecast at 16.5 million MT in raw sugar equivalent (RSE), with another 0.9 million MT produced for industrial purposes.
Oilseed planted area is forecast to surge in Marketing Year (MY) 2016/17.
Planting conditions for wheat and barley were very good in most regions. The current crop status indicates excellent prospects for the winter crops.
MY 2016/17 cotton area is forecast unchanged at 43,000 hectares (HA); farmers are not projected to add cotton area due to expected higher profit margins for other short duration crops.
