Since the previous report, Taiwan has granted new approvals for imports of genetically engineered (GE) products for processing, food, and feed use. Taiwan has never permitted domestic production of GE crops or animals. In 2023, Taiwan imported close to $930 million of U.S. crops including soybeans, corn, and cotton, accounting for 25 percent of total U.S. agricultural exports to the island.
On October 22, Taiwan completed a normal tender GF4-104-105 for 4,000 MT of U.S. medium or short grain rice and scheduled another normal tender for October 29.
As a result of breeding improvements throughout Taiwan’s dairy cattle industry, domestic milk production is forecast to steadily increase to 380,000 metric tons in 2016, up from 374,000 MT in 2015.
On October 13, Taiwan completed the second U.S. Simultaneous-buy and Sell (SBS) rice tender for 18,000 MT and scheduled two U.S. rice normal tenders...
