Romania and its 19.03 million consumers offer increasingly viable market opportunities for U.S. food and agricultural products. In 2021, Romania imported just over $12 billion worth of food and agricultural products (a 17 percent increase over 2020), of which around 1.5 percent, or $182 million, was sourced from the United States.
In the spring of 2014, FAS Bucharest worked jointly with the California Almond Board to clarify with Romanian Food Safety authorities the rules governing U.S. almond imports into the European Union.
