Australia’s sugar production is forecast to increase to 4.4 million metric tons (MMT) in marketing year (MY) 2021/22, from an estimated 4.335 MMT in MY 2020/21.
Sugar production in MY21/22 (Oct-Sep) is forecast to marginally grow to 10.6 million metric tons as rising cane sugar production is expected to offset lower beet sugar production.
Higher rainfall as a result of a La Nina weather pattern is expected to increase sugarcane yields, leading to increased production in 2021/2022.
Post sees Crop Year (CY) 2021/2022 (September/August) raw sugar production staying flat at 2.1 million metric tons (MT), as low productivity remains an issue amid the continued discussion of trade liberalization.
MY2021/22 sugar production is expected to recover to 10.6 MMT following two consecutive years of dramatically reduced production due to drought.
