Post maintains its previous marketing year (MY) 2016/17 (Oct-Sept) forecast for Indian soybean production in at 11.5 million metric tons (MMT), derived from 11.4 million hectares.

Pakistan’s shift from an importer of soybean meal to an importer of soybeans continues following adjustments to the tariff schedule two years ago.

Assuming normal growing conditions through September, soybean production in marketing year (MY) 2016/17 (Oct-Sept) is estimated at 11.5 million metric tons (MMT).

Pakistan continues to expand its imports of soybeans in response to an increased tariff on soybean meal. 2015/16 imports are estimated at a record 1.3 million tons.

Pakistan’s MY 2016/17 vegetable oil imports are forecast to be a record 3.3 million metric tons, up 9.6 percent from a year ago.

Assuming a normal 2016 monsoon (June-Sept), India’s total oilseed production in marketing year (MY) 2016/17 (Oct-Sept) will reach 35.4 million metric tons (MMT), a ten-percent over last year.

India is expected to produce 6.4 million metric tons (MMT) of rapeseed and mustard in marketing year (MY) 2015/16.
