India: FSSAI Publishes Regulations for Alcoholic Beverages

On December 18, 2020, the Government of India’s Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued new regulations and standards for alcoholic beverages. These regulations include updated requirements for low alcoholic beverages including craft beers, alcohol-free beer and winebased beverages, geographical indications, and labelling requirements for wine. The regulations are effective immediately, but industry stakeholders will have until July 1, 2021 to comply with the provisions.

FAS New Delhi maintains India’s centrifugal sugar production for marketing year (MY) 2025/26 at 35 million metric tons (MMT) (raw value basis), equivalent to 33 MMT of crystal sugar. This is supported by favorable rainfall during the 2024 southwest monsoon, which facilitated planting, and the 2025 monsoon which facilitated enhanced yields.
