China: NHC Publishes Updated National Food Safety Standards

On September 25, 2023, the People’s Republic of China (PRC), National Health Commission (NHC) announced a list of 85 updated National Food Safety Standards and 3 amendments. The updated standards will enter into force on March 6, 2024. This report provides an unofficial translation of the list. Many of the updated National Food (GB) Safety Standards cover food additives and/or food fortification items. Several of the updated GB standards relate to determination methods used for examination purposes. Some deal with GB standards for Good Manufacturing Practices of food commodities (e.g., dairy, infant formula, cured meats, and wine).
