Bangladesh is a role model of acceptance and advancement of modern agricultural biotechnology. As an emerging economy and developing country, Bangladesh’s citizens and policy makers are aligned in the same goal of reaching a sufficient food security status to feed a population of 165 million people. With innovative biotechnology support from the world scientific community, Bangladesh is progressing gradually to initiate research and trials of new genetically engineered (GE) varieties of essential traitbased crops, such as rice, potato, brinjal (eggplant), tomato, papaya, wheat, and cotton. Bangladesh’s research and development of animal biotechnology continue to be limited.
